Theatre, for me, is living in an art form. It works differently than other performance arts in that no matter how many times it is done by the same people, by the same company, the product is not exactly the same. The actors could be stressing a different emotion; the costume could in a different style; the set could be a few boxes or a two-story house. This ia one of the reasons I enjoying doing this work. Over my career so far, I have built many sets and hung light for shows varying from a 1000 seat auditorium to converted shops in to black-box theaters. I enjoy building the sets and building props from time to time and I have been known to hang a light plot and cable the fixtures. I view every job as an important one and have learned that lesson throughout my career.
