Carpenter
My first summer stock experience was at Highlands Playhouse. The theater was a great experience and connected me with many wonderful people who became wonderful friends, even after I left the mountains. I was hired as a one of the two carpenters for the three show summer season. The company did not have a Props Master so the Techinal Director, the other carpenter, and I took turns taking over prop responsiblities for each show. The two shows below are the shows that I helped build and also did run crew for the shows.

For this show, we had a midstage curtain for Act 1 to hide the ship behind it. The cannons were movable and had smoke machines, strobe lights, and a confetti cannon inside them. We also had a foam brick wall that we broke apart along two wagons at the end of Act 1.

This unit set did not take a long to biuld. The bed in the back was built to the matress we had at company housing. The flooring on the platforms was luan flooring to resemble a wood deck. The foam trees took longer to build than the all the platforming. We had to carve the grooves in the trees, sand them down and then paint them with shadows and highlights.
