Flat Rock Playhouse- May-November 2013

Flat Rock, NC
Carpenter Intern

After my graduation from Western Carolina University, I was hired as the carpenter intern for a six-month contract. It was a large learning experience as I learned many new techniques of building and finishing set pieces and handing them off for the paint department to make them pretty. Along with working in the set shop, I worked as a backstage hand, assistant stage manager, or microphone wrangler. While I was there, I learned more about the business side of a theatre as well as cooperation between many department since this was the biggest theatre in my career thus far.

This show was the second to last Mainstage show for the season and the last one I was part of the run crew. The platforms were built from the bottom up, putting the higher platforms on top of the lower ones so we did not have to make specially cut platforms.
